All'interno del sito la sezione “Risorse per l'abitare” presenta una pagina (“Residenze”) dove è possibile effettuare ricerche, nella provincia di Milano, per tipologie di residenza per persone disabili. Cliccando sui risultati si apre una scheda con i dati completi della residenza.


Sempre nella sezione "Risorse per l'abitare" è presente quindi una pagina “Mappa delle residenze”. Si tratta di una mappa realizzata con Google MyMaps e incastonata nella pagina web (sotto).


La mappa appare per la verità di dimensioni eccessivamente ridotte (anche se è presente il link che rimanda ad una visione più larga). Quali sono le criticità di questa semplice applicazione cartografica? Eccone alcune che ci appaiono evidenti. La prima è che le aspettative dell'utente vengono in un certo senso deluse: dal momento infatti che vi è una pagina dove è presente la possibilità di fare ricerche per tipologia (vedere la prima immagine), ci si aspetterebbe di vedere anche nella mappa rappresentati i dati differenziati per tipologie , invece le icone dei segnaposto sono tutte identiche.

A conclusione di questa rassegna di punti proponiamo un esempio che mostra quanto sia utile delimitare aree chiave nella mappa (punto 2). Nella mappa di Repubblica mostrata di fianco , che mostra i luoghi della strage di Tucson, sebbene non manchi un'introduzione, non sono delimitate aree chiave né indicati punti particolari rendendola praticamente inservibile all'utente: cosa infatti vi può trovare di utile per accrescere le informazioni sull'evento? Per conoscere i luoghi precisi dovrebbe rileggersi l'articolo con attenzione , trovare eventuali riferimenti a luoghi come vie, etc e cercarli nella mappa... non certo molto comodo!
